Announcing Expansion of the EMVC Portfolio Advisory Team

As our fund’s global strategic network and portfolio of early-stage companies continues to grow, it’s our pleasure to welcome Nitin Sharma and Sandeep Patil as Venture Partners as well as Alex Acree as Advisor to EMVC. Their expertise at the intersection of technology, financial services, and venture — as well as founder-centered ethos — will help accelerate our portfolio companies’ growth in India and internationally.

Sandeep, Alex, and Nitin join EMVC’s expert advisors which include unparalleled financial services leaders such as AP Hota, founding CEO and MD of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Hota led the development of India’s landmark Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which crossed 1 billion transactions in October 2019 and is becoming an example for real-time payments systems around the world.

The fund’s strategy is to back breakthrough fintech and insurtech in India, supporting local entrepreneurs with global connectivity, capital, and industry expertise through the firm’s consortium of top Fortune 500 companies and the global fintech ecosystem.

Sandeep Patil is a seasoned credit risk and financial services operator, currently Managing Director of India at Truecaller and will continue in this role concurrently. Sandeep previously was Head of Corporate Strategy as well as Consumer and Commercial Lending at Flipkart (including during the Walmart acquisition) as well as Capital One Bank in the US, McKinsey in London, and Actis Investments. He holds an MBA from London Business School and BTech from IIT Bombay.

Nitin Sharma is an experienced venture and angel investor in India and the US, including in 25+ startups, many in fintech. He is also the founder of Incrypt Blockchain, which plays an active role in shaping India’s emerging blockchain ecosystem through global investments, a developer network, and deep policy engagement. Previously, Nitin was founding Principal at Lightbox, now a $400M AUM fund in India. Earlier in his career, Nitin was a VC in the US at New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and head of BD at EverFi, one of the world’s largest education networks, reaching 25 million students, with $250M raised. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School, and two degrees from the University of Southern California. Nitin also serves on the India advisory boards of AngelList, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, and TheBetterIndia.

Alex Acree is a noted fintech and legal expert, advising and investing in companies in highly regulated industries. Previously, he served as Managing Director & General Counsel at Fenway Summer, a U.S. fintech venture firm, where he invested in and advised fintech, regtech, and govtech companies. Alex holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and an MBA from Yale School of Management.

To add to this good news, we are very pleased to welcome Ashwini Joshi as Investment Analyst, joining EMVC from ICICI Securities’ Fintech and Digital Group and IIM Indore.

We believe that the digital finance innovation being built in India today will scale domestically and dramatically transform global markets over the next decade.
